Carbon Fiber Material and Layup Selection
Material and layup selection determine stiffness, strength, impact response, thermal stability and cosmetic appearance. Common options include 3K twill weave, plain weave, unidirectional carbon fiber and quasi-isotropic multi-angle laminates.
Epoxy resin systems can be selected for general industrial use, elevated temperature, moisture resistance or application-specific environments. Fiber orientation and wall thickness are engineered around axial, bending, torsional and local connection loads.

Effective custom carbon fiber design begins with load direction, stiffness targets and the required safety factor. Fiber orientation should follow the main load paths, while wall thickness and laminate architecture should support axial, bending, torsional and local connection loads.
Holes, cutouts, bonded inserts, threaded interfaces and joints can create stress concentrations. Adequate edge distance, reinforcement, adhesive selection and surface preparation improve assembly reliability.
